FAQ
Why create a gay et lesbian orchestra ?

The RSO was created because we recognised a need to find ourselves together with muscians of like minds and similar values and to belong to an orchestra that serves the needs of the LGBT community.
An additional need was expressed by the members of LGBT choral groups in Paris and beyond who prefer to be accompanied by an orchestra such as the RSO.

When was the RSO created ? When was the first concert ? When are future concerts ?

The orchestra was conceived in 1996 and performed its first concert in 2002. For a complete history of the RSO, click here
The concert schedule is available on the RSO website at programme

I am heterosexual. Can I still play with the RSO ?

Absolutely !! You are very welcome to join the RSO. The orchestra strives to be a model of tolerance and is open to everyone, whatever their sexual orientation.
Talent, diversity, respect and sensitivity are all very important to the RSO and are part of the orchestra's bylaws.
Musicians who participate in the RSO support these principles, especially tolerance, respect, human rights, and efforts to combat homophobia .
By joining the RSO, musicians also agree to play in public as members of an LGBT orchestra.
The RSO also participates in community events, such as World AIDS Day and similar actions.

When does the RSO rehearse ? Where do the concerts take place ?

The orchestra rehearses in Paris one full weekend per month, on average.
You can find a complete description of rehearsals here.
During rehearsals and concerts, housing for musicians travelling from other parts of France or Europe can be provided (in the homes of RSO musicians).
Concerts take place usually in Paris, but also in other parts of France and Europe.
In 2008, the RSO is travelling to London and in 2010, to Cologne.

I am not sure if I have enough musical experience to play with the RSO. What level do I need to join the orchestra ?

The RSO has a high level of musical ability. However, we encourage you to contact us and discuss.
It is very important to be motived and to have enough time to practice at home, in addition to attending rehearsals regularly.
